5/24/2023 0 Comments Wife for Hire by Janet EvanovichAlthough there is plenty of romance and comedy in the books, they are primarily modern mysteries with an outrageous cast of secondary characters that add down to earth humor.Įvanovich became the first in her family to attend college. The heroine, Stephanie Plum becomes a bounty hunter in her hometown of Trenton, New Jersey by bribing her pervert cousin Vinnie for a job after she is laid off as a lingerie buyer. Each Plum book since that time has been named by a fan. After the third book in the series, Evanovich started running contests for her readers to suggest names for the next book. She later struck gold with her popular ‘Stephanie Plum’ Series – the twenty second book in the series, (‘Tricky Twenty Two’) will be released this November. The book begins with brief backgrounds on four friends, all enrolled in a shady law school named Foggy Bottom that has accepted them as part of an elaborate scam, which involves getting students to pay exorbitant tuition fees on the back of student loans, even as the disgraceful infrastructure and the deplorable teaching resources leave them woefully underprepared for the insurmountable bar exam, and eventually jobless. Cover of the book The Rooster Bar by popular John Grisham. John Grisham isn’t an author - he is a genre, and The Rooster Bar is a purgatory for the cheated, the wronged, in essence, the proverbial underdog, and serves justice in the most wishful way possible. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Author of angle of reposeShe leaves New York’s literary society to join her husband Oliver Ward in the West, where he pursues a faltering career as a mining and irrigation engineer. She is a beautiful and talented Victorian gentlewoman artist. The narrator is Lyman Ward, a divorced, wheelchair-bound retired professor working on a biography of his grandmother, Susan Burling. The combination makes Angle of Repose a compelling study of character, relations, and contrasting epochs in American life. This complexity creates space for extraordinary levels of nuance and doubt about the narrator's reliability. Yet, at the same time, without being obscure or difficult, the novel’s structure is necessarily complex. Its prose is pitch-perfect, old-fashioned, past tense, refreshingly lucid, and free of voguish artifices that deflect attention from the narrative to the author. 5/23/2023 0 Comments Robert h lustig sugarI think people writing for this subject often don't realize that many of us just "don't speak the language of food" and really need someone to "paint a picture" for us. It might be that it came across better in reading the book visually.but I didn't pick up much of that here. Yes, the essential information is there.but it would have been much more helpful to me personally if there had been a section along the lines of "here are sample menus which would be supported by Lustig's presentation of science". Of course, we all bring our preconceptions to a book when we read it, and I was really hoping for more practical advice on "what to eat" than I ended up with. I found the writing style very informative and engaging, and I thought JT Ross was a very good narrator.striking just the right tone for the book overall.however, his mispronunciation of the word "satiety" (just Google it for the correct pronunciation) was pretty distracting, as the word occurs often. I have heard Lustig interviewed before on Jimmy Moore's low-carb podcast and by Alec Baldwin. 5/23/2023 0 Comments Olga knipperOh, so much fun! Here’s my original announcement. This is one of my favorite events of the year, and not just because I’m the co-hostess. Geoffrey Kirk Douglas: 1916-2020 But Baby Think of Me Once in Awhile: On Andy Travis as Television’s Best (and Hunkiest) Boss Russian playwright Anton Chekhov obviously didn’t believe that less is more, as indicated by his closing to actress Olga Knipper in the 1880s: Well, I firmly clasp and kiss your hand. From Dynasty to The Love Boat, Night Court, and Battle of the Network Stars, his charisma and acting ability lit up the small screen for decades. Geoffrey Scott was from a younger generation than the performers I normally write about, but his handsome presence was ubiquitous during my 1980s childhood. Norman Lloyd, long a personal favorite of mine, was a fascinating man and performer.
